Poor people had children, got poorer, and overall had crappy lives. F. Scott Fitzgerald created a society that dramatized class distinctions in American society. For example the situation between Tom and George, while Tom talked about work with his friends and fornicated with myrtle, George worked and repaired cars to survive, but in the end life dealt him lousy cards which ended his life and that of others. These distinctions in America are classed in our daily lives when we look at magazines, advertisements, TV, commercials, all we see is this distinction between us, the improvised class, the middle class and the celebrities, the elite, the rich and the wealthy . Social position defines America, in the great Gatsby, Gatsby was seen as the mutt of the elite because he had emerged from the improvised class and infiltrated the wealth, elite and honesty of society. He was despised, ridiculed and condemned for this violation of society. But this behavior is not new in America, we have been building our class system since before the American Revolution and it became more clearly defined after the Civil Revolution.
