The first thing Carol felt when she opened her eyes was softness. However, she was lying on a bed and couldn't remember how she got there. The second thing he felt was little plump fingers pressing gently against his cheeks. The third thing he felt was pain. She moaned slightly under her breath. It seemed like there wasn't a place on her body that didn't hurt. “Mom, she looks like Merida from Brave!” a childish voice shouted as Carol slowly regained consciousness. “Ava, for the love of God, give the woman some room to breathe.” a female voice gently admonished the little girl. Carol looked at the face of a little girl with blonde curls that fell to her shoulders and bright blue eyes. He couldn't have been more than three years old. She was a beautiful little girl, Carol thought with a wistful smile. Carol turned her head to the right, noticing a blonde woman with perfectly coiffed hair sitting next to her with a small smirk on her face. "I am sorry." The woman said with a shrug. "It's his favorite movie at the moment." "Where are they?" Carol said groggily as she scanned the room in wonder. Never, in her entire life, had she been in such a beautiful place. Wherever it was, these people obviously had money. "You're at the Cherokee Rose Ranch." The woman responded softly as she gently lifted the little girl off the bed, placing her on her slender side. "My husband, Merle, was driving back from Atlanta when he saw you pass out on the sidewalk." Carol swallowed hard as she stared at the beautiful woman. "I don't remember fainting." The woman smiled at her with kind eyes. "I'm not surprised. You've obviously been through a lot." Carol nodded and looked away, fearing that this kind, beautiful woman might…not remember who Daryl was. "Who is Daryl?" Andrea looked over her shoulder as she stopped by the door. "He's Merle's brother." He said with a smile. "This is his house. He brought you here when Merle brought you home." Carol shifted anxiously in bed. Men made her nervous. "Oh..." "Don't worry. He likes to pretend to be a bear, but he has a heart of gold." She replied with a smirk. "Stay there. I'll be right back." Carol nodded and nervously turned the cute edge of the sheet and looked around the room. Maybe the owner of this beautiful house would have hired her? Surely a ranch this size would need someone to help it? Maybe he needed a cook or a housekeeper? What she owed them for their hospitality, they could take out of her salary. He was a burden, and no matter what, he had to somehow repay these people for their kindness.
