The President sought to change electronic health records due to high demand for healthcare; joining electronic health records will reduce costs and save money. The topic that keeps coming up is patient confidentiality; the concern is to prevent their information from falling into the wrong hands; in other words, hiding it from others who do not have permission to access it. Once the problems are resolved and solutions are found that will prevent this from happening, all medical services will use this method, however until this is completed it will be left on hold. According to Sutherly (2010), the car accident that Brennan Eden was involved in revealed some important issues regarding electronic health records. Apparently, You Tube had clips that people could see regarding Brennan's accident, it was later discovered that approximately two hundred employees who worked at Brennan's hospital had been caught and had access to his information. This incident has raised concerns about how one's information can be easily accessed without authorization. An article focused on protecting patients' rights was published in the New York Times. According to that article there have been several breaches due to the lack of adequate security system to safeguard this information (Pear, 2007). This wouldn't just affect a few people; it would affect anyone who was seen for any type of medical reason. Meanwhile, there are several issues related to legal and ethical issues regarding electronic health records, however, the legal issues can be easily handled, but the ethical issues regarding who will be allowed to access this information is another story and not so easily solvable. With the incident involving Brennan E...... half of the document ......g done and new ways to commit it; Information protection is critical in the fight against identity theft and fraud. However, there have been several ideas to overcome these problems; however, the truth is that these organizations simply cannot afford to continue without additional funding. Until the economy turns around and government spending declines, it will not be possible to solve the problems at hand. References ‣ Pera, Robert.
