Volunteering is something you don't do for money, but for the personal satisfaction of having helped someone else. Whenever someone helps another without being asked, they volunteer. A lot of people volunteer but deep down they really want to be out having fun, but I volunteer for the look on the child's face when they learn something new. There are many different groups to volunteer with. One of the main groups is AmeriCorps. Each year, AmeriCorps has more than 40,000 members serving with programs in every state nationwide. Groups like the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, and Boys and Girls clubs are just a few of the thousand different programs that make up AmeriCorps. AmeriCorps offers many different volunteer fields, from teaching children to read to building homes for low-income families. You don't have to be part of AmeriCorps to make a difference; there are other places like PM Academy where you can change someone's life for the better. One of our local volunteer sites is PM Academy. PM Academy is an after-school program for children in first through third grade who need extra help with math, reading and writing. PM Academy was founded to help children in problem areas. The children are divided into groups based on class. Each group has two volunteers; one takes on the role of the teacher and the other helps individual students.
