Author says it comes too late. This is when you realize you are lost. The author compares it using the analogies of the alcoholic who hits rock bottom, the boy scout who hastily took the wrong path, the worker who has wondered about company strategy, often not realizing that he has passed the first two goals until I am well beyond them. "(In Search of the Lost Freshman 16) At this point you are an emotional wreck, from what I understand, you have lost yourself completely. This can have a major effect on you mentally, physically and emotionally. The author wrote about a Lisa who actually ended up in the hospital because she wasn't prepared for what happened. The fourth milestone the author mentions is usually out of our control. The author calls it “The Intervention Point”. you need help to get out of what you've put yourself in. You've gotten this low and you've realized that the way you're trying to proceed is not the way to go. This for me is when family and friends step in and they help with solutions to a problem you can't solve on your own. Overall, I feel the author's message was to prepare the reader for the college freshman on the journey to becoming a college student don't miss what he learned before embarking on the journey to becoming a college student. I believe that if you stay true to what you learned before becoming a college student, and know that this is a journey where you will find success, by not losing who you are you will graduate and have fewer worries about the future.
