Topic > Truth, Justice and Reconciliation in Latin America

As head of the National Reconciliation Commission in Latin America, I will address the different paths towards reconciliation. The different paths to reconciliation from which I will make my recommendation are the Truth, Justice and Forgiveness Commissions. Furthermore, to support my points and arguments for the idea that Latin America should move forward with reconciliation, I will discuss case studies on Guatemala and Argentina. Drawing on these case studies on Guatemala and Argentina will allow me to support the paths of the Truth, Justice and Forgiveness Commissions. That being said, since all of these Latin American countries are dealing with the effects of this horrible epidemic that happened in the past, in some way, it allows me to further compare the case studies of Guatemala and Argentina, to further address my recommendations on reconciliation. .Based on my readings, classroom lessons, films and discussions I have analyzed the concept of understanding what a Truth Commission is. Truth Commissions are a strategy designed for situations where war crimes and human rights abuses have largely ceased and societies are struggling to come to terms with the tragedy ("Truth Commissions"). The purpose of this strategy is to investigate what really happened in a country by revealing a government's past wrongdoings and hopefully resolving the conflict. While truth commissions are a good strategy for revealing a county's horrific past, they still have their limitations. The limit of this strategy is that it gives a greater priority to correctness and honesty, rather than to the actual responsibility of those who actually committed these crimes, and therefore it cannot reach...... middle of paper... even a possibility.Works CitedArgentina.
