Good versus evil is at the center of many plots in films, books, shows or plays, and is the basis of many conflicts in the world and in history. But what happens when something is both good and bad, in the same thing? This is shown in the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. In the book, the main character, Scout, is a young girl growing up in the post-war South, in the state of Alabama. Throughout the story, as Scout grows up, she encounters many events that seem wrong to her but acceptable to other older people. Through things like racism, rape accusation, and attempted murder, along with the experiences of growing up in a Southern state, Harper Lee uses black-and-white thinking and a child's narrative to illustrate to readers how good and evil can coexist in people and in this world. For starters, there are many people that the Scouts meet growing up that Harper Lee uses in the story to create a sense of good and evil in the same person.
