They are needed in teams and the field of organizational behavior. If leaders want to increase their effectiveness they must be aware of the relationship that power and influence have within a company and among that company's workers. Researchers have addressed types of power (Etzioni, 1961), workplace tyranny (Bies & Tripp, 1998; Amar, V, 2005; Kant, et al., 2014; Ouyang et al., 2015), and problems that women can face (Hagberg, 2003; Kanter, 1979). Furthermore, gaps and methodological problems in the literature and research can cause or draw attention to contradictions or areas that need further attention. Definitions of power (Ott et al., 2008; Mechanic, 1962) and their typologies serve to guide theorists in their research. As connections are made through ongoing studies, progress is made in understanding areas such as tyranny and the role of women in organizations, resulting in organizations that are more aware of the role of power.
