Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, and more people are diagnosed with it than prostate cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer, and of the breast combined (Skin Cancer Foundation, 2014). If diagnosed and treated early, it is also the easiest type of cancer to cure. It is more serious than non-melanoma tumors because it can spread to other areas of the body. Nonmelanoma tumors are more common and begin in the basal and squamous layers of the skin (National Cancer Institute, 2013). It is rare for this type of cancer to spread to any other area of the body. Signs and Symptoms With melanoma, you should check all moles for irregularities.
