FLAGThe design of the flag of Afghanistan is composed of three vertical stripes of equal size, in order from left to right the colors are black, red and green. Then, directly on the red color, which is in the middle between the black and green colors, is the national emblem of Afghanistan. The black color on the flag is the first color. The color black represents the past. The second color, red, “represents the blood shed to liberate Afghanistan from its rulers and the British-Afghan War that occurred in the 19th century.” Green is the color of Islam, but it also represents new hope for the future. The national emblem of Afghanistan which is located directly in the center of the flag contains a mosque, below the mosque is the word "Afghanistan". There is also a date on the coat of arms, the date is the year 1298 (in the Islamic solar calendar) and 1919, when Afghanistan gained independence. The emblem also contains the Shahada.
