This war started in 1991 and this war also ended in 1991 when an agreement was made between George Bush and Saddam Hussein. The agreement stipulated that Iraq had to destroy all chemical and biological weapons it had. This peace treaty also required UN inspectors to regularly search Iraq to ensure that these weapons were destroyed. An embargo also prevented Iraq from selling oil or buying weapons on international markets until the United Nations confirmed that Iraq was abiding by the peace treaty. Problems with Iraq continued even after the Persian Gulf War during the Bush and Bill Clinton presidencies. Iraq was thought to be hiding weapons and blocking inspectors from some areas containing them. Bush, George Bush's son, took over. In the short period of George W. Bush's presidency, the United States was attacked by Afghan terrorists. The World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon were hit by hijacked commercial planes. This put the United States into turmoil. Bush responded by starting a war on terrorism. Well, it all started like that, but it turned into another war against Iraq and thousands of American military troops were deployed overseas to fight a battle with no real known cause.
