Due to the Spartian population increase, population expansion became a problem. Humans were forced to take land from surrounding habitats to create their own. The destruction of forests and Greenlands has caused deforestation, animal endangerment and extinction: “Agriculture is estimated to be the direct cause of approximately 80% of global deforestation” (Wageningen University ). As this happened, crops gradually depleted nearly all of the soil's nutrients, leaving areas bare and unable to support plant life. Making the acres useless to humans or animals and in exchange humans had to go further into settled areas to find fertile land. The sudden environmental load of carbon dioxide resulting from the increase in population and the decrease in forests and facilities to convert the high levels of carbon dioxide has produced an environmental problem that affects climate and seasonal cycles. Recent research shows that “In Latin America, commercial agriculture is the main direct driver, responsible for 2/3 of all forests cut, while in Africa and tropical Asia, commercial agriculture and subsistence agriculture both account for one third of deforestation” (Wageningen University) When you look at the transition from hunting to gathering to agriculture from a global perspective, the transition was very selfish
