Besides the slaves, the July 4th speech was presented in such a way that they should have opened their eyes to a different view that God was not the answer to everything. In any case, their religious beliefs were less identical to those of their slave masters, but this did not prevent them from suffering cruel, inhuman and barbaric treatment.
