Hamlet and Antigone both strongly followed what they believed. There is a lot of death involved in both of these stories, which makes them very similar in many ways, however they also have their differences. Hamlet and Antigone were both very upset by the way death had been handled in their families. In each play both try to avenge the deaths. Their decision-making process in avenging the death of their family members is not that clear because they have to be careful about what they do. In Antigone, Antigone is blamed for burying her brother, which she did and Hamlet would rather commit suicide. than dealing with all the imperfections of his family. In both plays, they challenge the ideas of life and death. Antigone was accused of doing something wrong, that is, burying her brother after Creon announced dishonor to him. In Hamlet we know that he poisoned the point of his sword so that even the slightest ornament would kill him. If we look at how both of these stories began, Hamlet's two uncles Claudius and Antigone's Creon had both committed crimes against their families. In Act I of Antigone, Creon says: “Polyneices, I say, must have no burial: no man must touch him or say the least prayer for him; he will lie on the plain, unburied; and the birds and scavenger dogs can do with him what they will. This is my command and you can see the wisdom in it. As long as I am King, no traitor will be honored with a loyal man. But whoever demonstrates with words and deeds that he is on the side of the State will have my respect while he is alive and my reverence when he is dead. Antigone didn't find him at all, so she decided to give him the right bu...... middle of paper ...... they would endure the pain they would feel and it would also be emotionally taxing. Antigone knows that she could die throughout her plan and at the end when she is captured and is ready to die Antigone tells us “This death of mine does not matter; but if I had left my brother unburied in death, I would have suffered” Antigone from the moment she knew she would bury her brother she was willing to die. The actions of both of these characters not only led to their deaths but also the deaths of others, when Antigone killed herself, Haemon, son of Creon, and Eurydice killed themselves out of grief for Antigone. Ophelia drowns by falling from a branch, Hamlet kills Claudius and Polonius, Laertes and Gertrude are killed by poison by mistake. Every action of Antigone and Hamlet weighed not only on the outcome of their lives but also that of the people around them.
