Case Name: MARYLAND v. PRINGLE (No. 02-809) 540 US 366, 124 S. Ct. 795, 157 L. Ed. 2d 769 (2003) Facts: A Baltimore, Maryland, police officer initiated a traffic stop, stopping a vehicle for speeding in the early hours of the morning. Inside the vehicle were the owner Partlow, in the driver's seat, the defendant, Pringle in the front passenger seat and Smith in the back seat. The officer noticed a roll of money in the glove compartment when Partlow opened it to retrieve his vehicle's license plate. The police officer checked the warrants and issued a warning for the violation to Partlow. The officer then asked permission to search the vehicle. Partlow denied having any weapons or drugs in the car and agreed to search the vehicle. While searching the vehicle the officer found the roll of cash he had seen earlier and five bags of cocaine between the armrest and the back seat, all of which were seized.
