The Importance of Research in NursingIntroductionResearch is a time-consuming method of collectively gathering information in order to provide the best solution to a problem or the best method of practice available. Research can certainly be seen as a process of trial and error, often undertaken by professionals who specialize in their areas of practice. It is a long and rigorous process of consistently gathering information to analyze. It is often collected through the use of structured questions and through in-depth observations of people and their actions and reactions to certain stimulants. Research is considered the most difficult obstacle to overcome to achieve recognized professional status and provide a high standard of care to patients. Bowling describes research as the “systematic and rigorous process of inquiry that aims to describe phenomena and develop explanations, concepts and theories” (2001, pg.1). The research can be interpreted in many different ways; it underlies all our education and is visible in every aspect of our lives. For example, research may show that in Ireland 15% of children under sixteen are overweight, but this will simply not be interpreted the same way by everyone. Some may think that this is due to the lack of exercise and general laziness of our younger generations, while others may think that it is due to poor diet and the guilt of parents/guardians for not giving their children the kind of food they meets their nutritional needs. Research-based nursing, in my opinion, should be an indispensable part of every health service as it is essential to providing effective and safe health and social care (Department of Hea...... at the heart of paper .... .. promoted for the important role it plays in our daily existence and, more importantly, for its vitality in providing the best possible practice I think there is a certain incentive that many nurses need to be motivated to expand their knowledge The introduction of research-based practice continues to be a challenging task, but it results in numerous positive attributes that cannot simply be excluded from practice. The definition of quality healthcare is the “degree in which health services individuals and populations increase the likelihood of desired health outcomes”. It is also stated that these are “consistent with current professional knowledge”. (American Nurses Association, 2013). I must underline the importance of this and emphasize that promoting research should indeed be an influential aspect. of nursing practice
