MOGHAL COSTUMES Mughal emperors and queens try their best to promote the world of fashion as best as possible, especially during their reign in India. They had a rich and diverse textile collection. As hardly any Indian designing technique, be it embroidery or printing, dyeing or weaving, has been untouched by them to make their dresses more lavish and attractive. The court costume consisted of an unlined outer cloak (jama), trousers (paijama) and a turban. These garments were worn with a sash (patka) at the waist, ceremonial weapons, and elaborate jewelry, often including a turban ornament. The term jama is a generic name for coat or outer garment and can be used for many different garments. Each region of India contributes to creating its own textile tradition. The hilly region of the country produced a rich variety of embroidered fabrics and fabrics.
