The number of children entering foster care is growing rapidly; however, there are not enough foster parents for these children. Children are placed in foster care due to neglect, abuse, and many other reasons. Adoptive parents are single individuals or married couples who are licensed to serve as guardians of their adopted children. Adoptive parents are very important because they help the child grow and provide love, affection and even stability while they are away from the birth parents. The aim of this review is to raise awareness of foster parenting and find ways to recruit parents to create successful foster care placements. A research study shows that twenty-two licensed foster parents during a parent training session with the Louisiana Department of Social Services were confronted about the role perceptions of White and African American foster parents (Nabusti, York, & Sandell, 2004). This study found that there are some differences and similarities between White and African American adoptive parents. They collected data from 128 African Americans and 65 white adoptive parents. This study demonstrated that African American parents are likely to care for children who are related to them; however, they isolate themselves from child welfare agencies (Nabusti et al., 2004). In this study, adoptive parents revealed that they are responsible for creating a relationship between the foster child and the birth parents, assisting the child in social and emotional development, helping the foster agency operate more easily, providing traditional parental roles and establishing spiritual relationships to the child. with the child (Nabusti et al, 2004). This study showed that the African American custodial parent feels that it is extremely important t... halfway through the paper... that we also understand the foster care system and its process. Finding ways to recruit adoptive parents is very important. All of the studies discussed above have found ways to recruit foster parents, give foster parents advice to ensure foster care success, and even compare African American and White foster families' perceptions of foster care. The foster care system is very serious and adequate foster care is absolutely necessary. While researching foster parent recruitment, I noticed that the church or organizations did not hold a recruitment day to raise awareness among interested families on how to become a foster parent. Hosting an educational seminar on the importance of foster families and explaining to the public how to become foster parents would be an effective way to raise awareness among interested foster families.
