For centuries there has been one sex that has dominated the development of society. Laws, religion and lifestyle all revolved around the idea that one sex, the male, was dominant. Oppressed and considered inferior, women would obey men, give up all rights and assume all responsibilities. Only recently, with the emergence of the women's liberation movement, have both sexes been considered equal. For the first time in the history of humanity, both sexes were given the opportunity to realize their potential without discrimination. The parents, despite their preference to have a girl or a boy, knew that regardless, their children would have equal opportunities in life. Cutting-edge technology, however, means this could all change. The ability of parents to actually select the sex of their children could have devastating effects not only on society, but on the lives of many children and parents. Whether the parents had a girl or a boy has always been left to nature to decide. Until now, no one has dared to interfere with the genetic functioning of the body, mainly because the technology to do so did not exist.
