Millions of people resent the government because it is a sort of Big Brother, making accusations of spyware and hacking programs, supposedly regulating our every move, but sharing freely and extremely personal information publicly. It has become common practice to post about family members, location, phone number, email address, workplace, political affiliations and much more, going well beyond the simple question of "what are you doing now?". Although many sites like Twitter and Instagram have a delete button, your posts are never actually permanently deleted, but instead are deleted from the so-called timeline. Daum observes in his essay that, “in a world without borders…privacy as a cultural or even personal value has long gone out of fashion” (233). It's almost hypocritical how our society claims to value secrecy and discretion, yet people from all walks of life show very little self-control when it comes to filtering the type of information they post on
