Mary Wollstonecraft Shelly wrote many books in her life. He received a lot of criticism on one of his books in particular, Frankenstien. Frankenstein was one of his most famous novels. Shelly had written Frankenstein to enter a competition, but what few people understood was that Frankenstein was one of the many nightmares Shelly had had during her difficult childhood. Shelly has become one of the most famous Gothic authors due to her use of graphic descriptions and settings and her use of many significant themes. Mary Wollstonecraft Shelly was born in London on 30 August 1797. Shelley was the daughter of a philosopher named William Godwin. Shelly's mother died while giving birth to her, and her father remarried in 1801 (Drabble 121). Shelley did not like his father's new wife, so, as a result, he sent her to live in Dundee with the Baxters, foster parents, where she remained until 1814. Shelley made many visits to London to visit his father (Bloom 3014). On May 5, 1814, Mary met Percy Bysshe Shelley during one of her visits to London. Percy Shelley left his wife Harriet and went to France with Mary (Bloom 3014). Shelley returned to London to give birth to a daughter only to lose her two weeks later. Percy Shelley proposed to Mary Godwin and they married in 1816. Shelley became pregnant several times and lost the baby at birth. Of four children, only one survived, Percy (Drabble 121). While the Shelleys were traveling in Italy, they had sent letters to their friends asking for financial support. During this period, many legal battles were fought over publishing issues, Shelley's estate, and the four children from Percy's previous marriage. The next two c...... middle of paper...... 1876 a poem entitled “A poem on Shelley's Death” was published. Then, in 1891, almost seventy years after Shelley's death, another book was published. This book titled “Tales and Stories by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley,” was a collection of short stories written by Shelley but never published (Goldberg 3205). Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley lived a very difficult life. During this difficult period he managed to achieve more than most Gothic writers. His worldview of Gothic Romanticism was a direct reflection of his struggle in life. This allowed her to provide a better account than most authors. His life ended as unhappy as it began, but without regrets. His work is well remembered and often regarded. Shelley, as well as his novel Frankenstein, will always be considered one of the best Gothic authors with one of the best Gothic novels to date.
