Hypocrites are people who in life do what they say and don't seem like who they really are. For example, let's say someone has a serious drug addiction, but runs the drug rehab clinic. They would be very hypocritical, because they themselves need help, while they are the ones who seem to be the best among everyone. The robes fit this analogy because on the outside they appear to be soft golden silk, while on the inside they are lined with heavy lead. This ties in with hypocrites because on the outside you seem perfect and a great person, but on the inside you may be dealing with your own struggles or not making the best choices. The weight of the clothes is also significant for the symbolism, because this weight represents the baggage that these people have had to carry within themselves throughout their lives, hiding who they really are from the rest of the world. Now they still have to carry that baggage, but physically, putting so much strain on themselves, that they creak and groan as they walk down the eighth
