Topic > The Endless Israeli-Palestinian Peace Talks - 1982

The news of people dying and suffering, killings of women and children, and bombings by terrorists and the military, has undoubtedly drawn the world's attention to the Israel-Palestine conflict. As Palestinian children cry out over the death of their parents, leaders and academics around the world have engaged in a frenzied debate, trying to pinpoint the real cause and workable solutions to the current situation. This has led to numerous peace initiatives by the international community which have unfortunately proven to be devastating failures. This stalemate had led leaders and supporters on both sides to blame each other for their stubbornness, in some cases fueling unrest in Israel and Palestine (Reynolds). In this difficult situation, it is difficult for us to determine what actually caused the failure of the peace talks without being biased. Therefore, my goal in this essay is to objectively examine the cause of the failure of the peace talks by looking at the history of past peace talks, the reasons for disagreement given by Palestine and Israel, and the key issues discussed in the peace talks. Finally, I will conclude my research by developing my position on the causes based on the research I have conducted. Before moving on to discuss the cause of the failure of the peace talks, it is essential to understand the peace initiatives that occurred between Israel and Palestine. The starting point for the peace talks was UN Security Council Resolution 1967, adopted after the 1967 war (Reynolds). This resolution emphasized the “withdrawal of the Israeli armed forces from the territories occupied in the recent conflict” and “. . . respect and recognition. . . of every State in the area and their right to live in peace in a safe and restful environment... at the center of the paper ......continue the peace process?: No, it is heading for disaster."
