I didn't like the female stereotype that men give to women in this movie. Toula's father stated "see, this is why women shouldn't be allowed to get an education" because she has outgrown traditional Greek values, so he blamed it on her getting a different job and a better education. This culture is a highly masculine culture because they feel that they are above women in almost every aspect because women are used to marry, cook, clean and have children but they are not as worthy as men are because they are lower on the totem. I like that men make sure their family is taken care of and protect them, but I don't like it at the expense of women being belittled by them just because they are the opposite sex. Something I learned from this film is that people can be accommodating to others and overcome ethnic differences without undermining the magnificence of their own ethnic traditions. Ian did this simply by being baptized in a wading pool at the Greek Orthodox family
