Operating InstructionsThe operating or user instructions are an overview of how the system works for your reference and training. They are normally paper, however more and more manufacturers are publishing them in digital format instead. They typically contain a table of contents, an FAQ section, a glossary of technical terms, and hardware details. This type of documentation is primarily aimed at novice users. Environmental Documentation Environmental documentation is a detailed description of the environment in which the system is capable of operating, including heat, dust, vibration, humidity, electrical interference, and/or magnetic fields. It also outlines the requirements for the area, such as whether ventilation must be installed or whether a specialized support foundation is needed to install the application. Maintainability documentation Maintainability or technical documentation is intended for maintenance of the system. The personnel involved in the development of the system are not always employees of the company. It is therefore important that the technical documentation of the system is available in case the system needs modifications or is repaired after installation. Program Instructions Program instructions are a detailed set of documentation about the software used by PLCs. It includes a detailed description of how the program works, as well as details about the software you should use to modify the program and how it should be run. Test Documentation This is a report that provides details of the tests performed on the system as well as the test results. It will also include errors detected and how they were corrected, as well as any existing errors that have yet to be… middle of paper… the system without thinking about the consequences, introduces errors into the system or undoes existing changes already made. The goals of a change control procedure typically include minimizing disruption to system processes, reducing the number and frequency of backups required, and making cost-effective use of resources used during implementation of the change. This is also a very important documentation item as it outlines the procedures that should be used to minimize disruption to system processes, reduce the number and frequency of backups required, and promote cost-effective use of company resources. This is critical because it allows the customer to make changes to the system with as little disruption to ongoing processes as possible and reduces changes that could compromise the system through improper modifications.
