Men competed naked, so women were forbidden to watch. Agriculture was part of the daily life of the Greeks. They planted wheat, barley, apples, lettuce, and so on. The most important vegetable was the olive because it was used for cooking, and the most important fruit was the grape because it was used for wine. From vase paintings and sculptures, we can tell that textiles were intensely colored and usually decorated with intricate designs” (Pearson, 42). “Bright colors were popular, especially among women. The purple was obtained from sea snails and the purple shades come from insect larvae called kermes worms” (Pearson, 42). Greek clothing was made of wool provided by local sheep (Pearson, 42). The Greeks wore colorful clothing and were not very specific about what to wear. “Women and men wore sandals, slippers, soft shoes or boots, although they usually went barefoot at home” (© 2003- 2012 Unive...... middle of paper ......ing culture that I decided to The Greeks wore tunics and wore sandals or went barefoot.
