A. Introduction-The Uglies is a book about the futuristic aspect of America. There are many futuristic things like hover boards. But this society is not as perfect as people think. The narrator of this book is Tally Youngblood who will embark on a journey to find her best friend. In this society everyone is obsessed with beauty. And the Ugly are the people between the ages of 12 and 16 who live in a remote community, far from the beautiful people. In this community the Uglies look forward to their 16th birthday. At the age of 16 they undergo mandatory plastic surgery to live up to society's standards. After undergoing plastic surgery they will be known as beautiful and will also live with all the other beautiful people. After changing communities they will party constantly and spend most of their time drinking champagne. But then Tally discovers that the government is hiding a scary secret about how to become a belle, and she will risk her life and the lives of her friends to save them from becoming belle.B. Characters-Summary- She is the protagonist of this book and must choose whether to betray her friends or become nice. She's not so sure what she wants. As Tally starts talking to Shay more, she begins to reconsider what is truly normal. In the first part of the book she wants to become beautiful and have a normal life like everyone else. But after a while he starts to change his mind and tries to avoid having plastic surgery. She is a really adventurous person and likes to have a lot of fun. She falls in love with David and together they save the fumes. She ultimately risks her life and becomes a beauty to become and experiment with David's moms to test a cure for the brain injuries that are created when they go... middle of paper... to save them from going. through a transformation that will change them forever. The moral of the book is that you don't need to have surgery to look a certain way. That a perfect society will never exist and that no one can control the way people are. It's not fair to categorize people into different groups based on their appearance. There will never be a utopian society where the government controls everyone and they have to do things at a certain age. Theme: The theme of the book is that appearance shouldn't matter. Like how Shay says she doesn't care about appearance or getting pretty.F. Overall opinion: My overall opinion on this book is good, I really liked it and I recommend it to anyone. It is a good book to read and keeps you interested throughout the book. Works Cited Westerfeld, Scott. Ugly. New York: Simon Pulse, 2005. Print.
