A real-life situation is the case of Dr. Wakefield, a medical researcher who wrote a fraudulent research paper that supported the idea that vaccines were directly linked to autism. After peer review and exposure, his medical license was revoked. The scientific community generally agrees that vaccines, meeting the improved standards of the 21st century, are the most effective means of combating and eradicating infectious diseases.
