A frame story is a smaller story within a larger story. In the prologue of the Arabian Nights, the king named Shahrayar witnessed his unfaithful wife making love to another man. Due to this terrible tragedy, Shahrayar decides to have his wife killed due to her unfaithful acts. The man who killed his wife, named Vizer, once the death was accomplished by killing his wife, Vizer had a new job which involved finding a new woman to sleep with every night. Every morning the woman is killed by Vizer after sleeping with the king. He did this so he wouldn't have to face the pain of having an unfaithful woman among his gifts and never feel that pain again. One day Vizer's daughter, named Shahrazad, came to her father and told him that she was tired of all that death and it was time for him to settle down and marry her. Vizer decides to give his daughter to Shahrayar to marry him. This is the beginning of the tale: every night Vizer is forced to tell a story to her husband, the king, if she wants to stay alive.
