I have noticed that there are some ways that every day in my life I can help someone. A good example is that all over the city I see homeless people holding up signs asking for money or food. One evening my fiancé and I ate at Cheddars restaurant and as we were leaving, there was a homeless man lying in the grass with a dog and he had a sign that said "Need food, please help." That's when I realized my life could be worse and we had some leftover steak and handed it to the man. He was very grateful and said that he and his dog loved the steak and that this will be one of the best meals in a while. I felt better about myself after that moment. Gareth Cook mentions in his article that Michael Norton of Harvard Business School says, “Norton argues that doing something for someone else provides a huge boost to our confidence that we can get things done” (qtd in cook 606). I agree with Norton on his statement because after giving that man our food, I felt much more confident in myself and the choices I will make after that evening. Plus, helping people can actually save us time.
