Jonas tried with all his strength to climb the hill. But the thick snow was falling like there was no tomorrow. Jonas fell to his knees. He looked down at the little bundle in his arms. In it was the newborn baby, Gabriel, whom Jonas had saved from certain death, and he was sleeping soundly. Jonas tried to grasp the last memories of light and warmth he could muster. After continuing on all fours and knees up the snowy hill, Jonas finally reached the top. And with that he realized his journey had just begun. Jonas woke with a start, panting heavily. Gabriel's small body moved next to him. Jonas, when his breathing returned to normal, turned his head towards the bright orange glow on the horizon. It's a good time to get up, Jonas thought. Jonas had been having nightmares about that fateful day ever since it happened. And it had happened more than 4 months ago. Jonas' journey, after all this, was not yet over. It wasn't that he hadn't found people, because he had. Whenever he found a community of people far from identity, he stayed with them for a week or two.
