Marlin is very paranoid about the marine life outside his anemone and has no interest in exploring the outside. Nemo, on the other hand, is externally oriented, he wants to explore and go to school like a normal clown fish. Marlin eventually agrees to let Nemo go to school, but even when they receive their Marlin still shows symptoms of stress, fear, and worry about Nemo attending sea school. Over the course of this animated film the audience sees Marlin confront and deal with his paranoia, he learns to live a little more on the edge when he meets Dude the turtle and Bruce the shark. Marlin forgets his fears and goes to dinner with the sharks, because “Fish are friends, not food”. Marlin is still very afraid that he will never find his son, but along the way he receives hope and encouragement and learns to face difficulties.
