Since 1971, obesity has increased 70.4% (Lewis). Obesity has accelerated at a ridiculous rate. Over 32 million children eat lunch at school every day (Lewis). One to two thirds of daily meals are provided by schools; therefore most of their daily consumption is in the hands of our government (Lewis). Since obesity has increased dramatically since the 1970s, it is reasonable to consider school meals responsible for the growth in obesity over the past 45 years (Food Timeline). Obesity does not develop in children who eat lunch outside the home. Most parents are confident that they prepare healthy lunches for their children every day. In reality, packed lunches or lunches that come from home usually consist of home-cooked meals and children do not usually refuse these meals (Cluggish).
