Topic > 'The Scarlet Letter by Oliver Marriane - 750

The film illustrates the character of Oliver Penderghast, a high school student who considers himself invisible to his classmates. However, her life soon changes when a religious fanatic (Marriane) eavesdrops and Olive tricks Rhiannon, her best friend, into telling her she has lost her virginity. Without hesitation, Marrianne will quickly tell her boyfriend Micah and the lies will be spread to the entire school population. Olive is seen following "Hester Prynne" in the "Scarlet Letter", a character she is studying in school until she decides to use voices to convey her social and financial position. Throughout school Olive managed to maintain a good reputation until rumors started spreading, gaining her unwanted attention. Her reputation diminishes when Brandon, who wants to put him out of his misery of being bullied at school for being gay, asks her to pretend they slept together to fool his peers into thinking he is straight. However she reluctantly commits, but the meeting puts her in the spotlight among the student population. Meanwhile Marriane and her followers have decided they want her in school. Noticing that she couldn't escape the rumors, Olive is determined to play along with the lifestyle she's been given, including wearing tight clothing with the letter "A" standing for adulterous. Olive later solves all her problems, confesses her lies, and finds love with the school mascot Woodchuck Todd is her love interest who disregards gossip. The first concept evident in the film is that of Stereotype and according to Plotnik Kouyoumdijian, (2008) states that stereotypes are widely held beliefs that have certain traits because they belong to a particular group. Stereotypes are often inaccurate and often put in the middle of paper what actually happened and announce that it is nobody's business whether he loses his virginity or not. She later texts her friend Rhiannon apologizing for lying to her. If it weren't for her mother, she might not have been brave enough to confess the entire situation to the school population. ConclusionOlive found itself faced with several rumors that grew out of all proportion. In an attempt to survive the rumors, she loses her good reputation, that of her best friend Rhiannon, and gains unwanted attention from the entire school population. It relates to life in so many different ways and teaches us to always be sincere despite how we may feel about a situation. Even though there were a lot of falls, I liked how he gets the strength to overcome the situation. Bibliography Plotnik, R. (2002). Introduction to psychology (6th ed.).
