One life change Kempe made was between herself and her husband. To live a holy life without disobeying God, she decided to remain celibate with her husband. He wanted to live as Christians lived, that is, love without sex. Kempe does this with her husband to demonstrate that she too can have a union with God. She writes of God telling her, "Therefore I must have intimacy with you and lie with you in your bed. Daughter, you long to see me, and when you are at bed you can take me with you as your bride." husband..." (Kempe, Book 1.35). This means that she loves God and is devoted solely out of worldly attraction and in no way out of sexual attraction. Another way Kempe drastically changes her life because of her devotion to God it's her personality and the way she behaved in general. Her transition into religious life was very emotional and dramatic, causing scenes wherever she went. She would have crying fits during Mass, which is extremely destructive, she would have these bouts of crying in the street and people would complain about her and then she would preach about how God chose her and wants her to make the change to a religious life. Her disruptiveness and preaching were hateful and caused people to question her orthodoxy. However, she was very accepting of it
