Black Friday is one of the busiest shopping days leading up to Christmas. Consumers stand in line hours if not days before the doors open. The sales start in the early hours of the morning; typically around 5 a.m. Shoppers save hundreds of dollars on all the latest gadgets and accessories. But crazy deals have a problem. Several customers and employees are bruised, injured and even killed during the event. Greed for the lowest price during the holiday season has led to countless fights for a discounted item. Greed is a major theme expressed in The Hobbit written by JRR TolkienIn The Hobbit, the plot of the story is filled with greed; often, this leads to disaster. Thorin and his companions' greed for not sharing the gold backfires on the group. The group of dwarves find themselves stuck in prison. As the group travels through the forest, the Elven King kidnaps them. The king has one goal: (Colon) to discover the reason behind the dwarves in his domain. Thorin orders his group to keep their journey a secret. The group remains in prison for an inordinate amount of time due to Thorin's greed. To avoid this situation, (The Introducer) Thorin could tell the king his real reason for entering the forest. Thorin believes that if the king discovers the gold, the elves will attempt to take some of the treasure. Stupidly, Thorin decides that the treasure is worth more than his freedom, "When they took away their spell from him (Thorin) and he came to his senses... he was determined not to take from him any words of gold or jewels" (169) . ). The greed to recover all the gold leads the group to get stuck in prison. The king just wants information on why groups of dwarves ended up wandering his front... middle of paper... ess. The desire for fresh wine leads to the flight of the dwarves. Most races share a common trait, greed which often leads to their downfall. JRR Tolkien skillfully describes in The Hobbit how greed often leads to a disastrous outcome. Greed can affect any type of person, even the leader of a group. Thorin, the leader of the dwarves, is tormented by greed for the riches within the mountain. Even secondary characters can be drawn into greed. The spiders try to make the most of the group's food, but end up losing all the food. (Linker) The disastrous end of the antagonists is mainly due to greed. First, Smaug wants revenge for the disappearance of the golden cup. After many days of fighting, Smaug is killed during the battle of the Lake Men. Society as a whole believes that the need for material goods is worth the agony required to obtain them.
