When a counselor self-discloses information to a client, the information must serve a beneficial purpose. Studies show that the most common topics of self-disclosure are personal theoretical approaches, beliefs about treatment, statements of respect for the client, similar emotions, and coping strategies (Ziv-Beiman, 2013). It is important that consultants do not reveal too much personal information or irrelevant information to the client. One of the problems that arise when a counselor provides inappropriate information is role reversal. Boundaries must be established between the counselor and the client for the therapeutic process to be successful. I must learn to become firm and persistent about my boundaries that I expect to be followed. If boundaries are tested with my clients, I will explain to them the importance of the therapeutic relationship. I am a firm believer in self-disclosure. I believe it's a way for customers to feel comfortable and express themselves freely. It is important when you come out openly to talk freely about your experiences only when it will benefit the client. It is important not to reverse roles from where the consultant is now
