During my fall 2013 semester I experienced and learned numerous ideas and information. All of my classes taught me vital information to be successful and pursue my career and life goals. One of those classes was English 314 Honors. This course has truly broadened my horizon to the many collections of literature in our world. I learned about the literary works of Egyptians, Mesopotamians, Indians (South India), Chinese, and Africans and how each influenced their culture. Additionally, I learned many philosophical beliefs from wisdom literature and the genre, geographic background, and time period in which each works was created (some dates were roughly estimated). However, the main aspect of English 314 Honors is the style in which all the different literary works incorporate the nature and meaning it gives to each society. In all the literary works I have learned, nature is represented as a primitive, creative, beautiful and tragic conception, which has a great influence on every culture. In the Hymn to the Aten (written around 1450 BC) the Egyptians compared their God to the sun, also describing the beauty of nature. The Egyptians called their God “Ra/Re, or Kheper,” which meant Sun God. Furthermore, the word Aten itself meant solar disc in the sky. The idea of the Hymn to the Aten is that it was full of praise and an uplifting spirit towards their God. Throughout the text you can see how closely nature is related to the theme. For example, the sun itself gives life to everything on earth. It's also how we distinguish night from day. In the Hymn to the Aten the author uses the beauty and idea of how the sun gives/creates life and relates it to their God and how He is the creator of life. Fina... half the paper... is infinite and useless. Furthermore, the Preacher believes that all cycles of nature are equal and that there is nothing truly new on earth. The book of Ecclesiastes uses nature as evidence and as an example to convey its theme very well. Indeed, the representation of nature and its use have a huge impact on some cultures regarding religion. As we can see how the author used nature to infer his reasoning and opinions on life. And so, the 314 Honors English course taught me so much about the world of literature. However, the main idea that I will always maintain is that nature is used in many literary texts to convey multiple meanings, whether it is animals or environmental scenery, nature has an important symbol when using it as a tool. In all honesty, this course has taught me a lot and helped me lay a stronger foundation on how to approach literature in our world.
