The Vietnam War was dividing both government officials and the public. The Yippies and the National Mobilization Committee gave voice to the growing frustration of many with the war. The disagreements between the candidates demonstrated the uncertainty of the times. Police and National Guard brutality showed how far the government would go to try to silence opposing views. One thing was clear: change had to happen. Fortunately, the opposition would bring about positive change that would soon take place
