By this time the computer was being integrated into organizations and was seen by many as an asset to information management. While the primary use of computers was reserved for technical and scientific librarians, reference librarians were adopting the use of computers as the amount of material a reference librarian needed to know was becoming impossible to keep up with without the aid of a computer. Librarians were expected, and still are, to be aware of the latest techniques and have the skills to use new technologies on the market.
