Strategy is the most important factor in running a business. Business strategy is defined as “the intelligent allocation of limited resources through a unique system of activities to outperform the competition in serving customers” (Horwarth 28). In the book “Deep Dive” by Rich Horwath he provides us with key principles and concepts of strategic thinking. The three disciplines of strategic thinking consist of 1) Acumen: Generating broad insights through a step-by-step assessment of your business and environment, 2) Allocation: Focusing your limited resources through strategic trade-offs, and 3) Action: Implementing a system to ensure effective strategy execution at all levels of your organization. To formulate a strategy, we must now execute the strategy. Companies tend to lose productivity when they are unfamiliar with the purpose of their work and the strategy to achieve their goals and unleash their maximum potential” (Howarth 29). The third discipline of strategic thinking is Action. Howarth describes Action as implementing a system to ensure effective execution of strategy at all levels of the organization. It proposes the strategic formula to ensure that managers have a framework for communicating strategy to their subordinates. The strategic formula guides the process of “channeling strategy from mind to paper” (Howarth 129). There are four components to the strategy formula; what + how + who + impact 1) What: the activity that represents the purpose of the strategy 2) How: the general means or method to achieve the strategy 3) Who: the audience that the strategy must reach and 4) Impact: the desired outcome of strategy development and implementation. I believe this is a method that should be implemented in all organizations. I would use this method in my company by ensuring that every employee has a copy of the company's strategic formula. It would be displayed in various areas of the company and I would also create a pocket card with the information. I will constantly question employees to ensure they are familiar with the company's strategy. The goal is to let everyone know the company's strategy and how we plan to move from our current state to a desired future
