Topic > Feminism: Not really a question of burning bras - 1695

“They want us around for parties, jokes and especially sex, but they don't see us as intellectual equals.” This statement comes from a girl from Chesire who founded a feminist society in her school after noticing how women were not treated equally. Society has grown up in a world where men and women are not perceived as equal and those who support equality are considered crazy. Feminism is lacking in today's society due to the overwhelming demand to keep patriarchy in place, because this is what society has grown up with throughout history. The question is: why hasn't the world accepted an egalitarian society? With this astonishing lack of feminism in society, the world needs to allow it back into the way society works, but before that happens, the world needs to look at why it needs it, what it is and that includes stereotypes such associated with it, and ending with the objectives of women's rights activists. Without feminist ideology present in the culture, many people have suffered and continue to suffer. Over a century ago, the suffragette movement began and children are still raised to believe they are superior (“Society” 3). This is evident in the way women are stereotyped, treated and thought of. Many women are accused of being hysterical when they try to discuss issues related to injustice (“Society” 2). Women live in a society where they are not “allowed” to do many things. Today's culture silences women's narratives and experiences and uses the term that the worst thing a man could be is to be a woman (Lang 3). The lack of feminism prevents women from being able to speak openly and feel free. They suffer because they are silenced. However, feminism is the solution to liberate the oppressed and the empo...... middle of paper ... the world is taught to believe that it is the only key to equality. The absence of feminism is astonishing and people have to allow it. in their lives; with the recognition of the reasons why millions of women are oppressed, the way society defines feminism, and the goals that every feminist and everyone should strive for, it is evident now that feminism is greatly needed in the world. Both men and women suffer from it and it plays a fundamental role in the culture of today's society. To solve this problem, society's way of life must undergo an upheaval. Women and men must become equal. This is a global problem and its continuation will be devastating. It's a simple concept to understand and adapt to. Continuously living in a society where women are oppressed causes every single person to live an oppressed life and embracing the feminist movement is the only cure.
