Consider how many shows are currently on the air and then consider how few of them have positive role models. Also, consider how many have positive main characters who are people of color. Despite the abundance of television available, it is sorely lacking in diversity, and that, in itself, is a message that young people, and all viewers, are embracing, whether they are consciously aware of it or not. The lack of positive people of color on television or in film makes it difficult for young people of color to find people they see themselves in or model themselves after. If every role is filled with white protagonists, it becomes so commonplace that not seeing people of color suggests they don't take on those roles in society. That there are no people of color who are superheroes, lawyers, doctors, or other highly esteemed careers. Furthermore, when people of color are filled with stereotypes and written as background characters with menial jobs, it suggests that this is where people of color are expected to end up. Even if we cannot personally change the way the media deals with diversity and whitewashes so many films, we can still make our voices heard and make sure children and young people are aware of it too. Boycott films that erase history (for example Ben Affleck as Tony Mendez in "Argo" or Christian Bale as Moses in "Exodus"), participate in petitions asking for greater representation, make our voices heard on social media platforms media about the lack of diversity in television and media and spread it among young people so they can see that activism is happening,
