Which country has more than thirty-eight million citizens and is located in Central Europe? Which country speaks Polish as its national language? It's Poland of course! They are geniuses when it comes to culinary art and know how to throw a party! They are very family centered in their culture. Poland has such a rich history! Through each invasion and journey to freedom they are torn down, come together and grow as a country. From monarchs to oppressive communism and the democratic republic, they've seen it all! The history, culture and people of Poland are truly a unique treasure, even if unknown to most. Let's see if things can change! Russia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Germany and the Baltic Sea constitute Poland's borders. Warsaw is the capital of Poland and is home to approximately one million seven hundred thousand Poles. During World War II, Germany decimated over 85% of its cities. However, many streets, churches and historic buildings have since been restored; Warsaw will never be the same city again. Most of the homes and historical monuments are located on the western bank of the mighty Vistula River. Prague, the eastern part of the city, was spared from Nazi destruction thanks to the occupation of that land by the Red Army. Krakow is another very important city for Poland. Krakow has approximately seven hundred and fifty thousand people residing there. They also host many international and Polish companies in Krakow. It is now a world heritage site that attracts seven million visitors every year. In 1596 Zygmund III Wasa, ruler of Poland, moved the capital from Krakow to Warsaw. Jagiellonian proudly resides in this historic place and holds the record of being the oldest university......middle of paper......ilia (Christmas Eve.), Pole goes on a twelve-hour fast until in the evening. With the appearance of the evening star, food makes its debut. They have a twelve course meal to represent the twelve months of the year. Once the dishes have been eaten (herring or pike, potatoes, dumplings, cabbage and sweets) and the presents have been opened, hymns are sung and then we go to Christmas Eve mass. They generally repeat these actions on Christmas Day. Poland is so rich! From their diet and history to their natural resources and even their values, Poland has so much to offer!
