It's my favorite season and holiday of the year and it's best experienced in New York City. In my country Turkey, we don't celebrate Christmas but we decorate the streets and our houses during New Year, but Christmas has a completely different atmosphere. Before I went to college, my dad would take us around New Jersey towns during the Christmas season and we would pick out the best decorated town or house. In Jersey, some people go to extremes in decorating their homes and you would only see a house made of lights. These lights would warm up the cold outside. It symbolized unity, family and love. I always feel like everyone forgives each other this time of year, calls each other if they haven't in a long time and sends each other cards and gives each other gifts. Of course at Christmas there is more: just decorations and gifts. Religious beliefs and the story of Jesus Christ should not be forgotten. Unfortunately I also believe that this day was used to revive the economy. But on the other hand, it unites and brings people together. I like walking in Rockefeller Center on Christmas Day, not only because there is the big Christmas tree there, but because the light shows and decorations in the shop windows take me back in time and make me feel like a child a wonderland.
