Statistically speaking there are approximately 23.8% of police officers reported for this. This is not the number of those who have been convicted of excessive use of force, it is just the number of complaints that have been made. But in all honesty we don't even know their side of the story. While some use a lot of force and should be punished, what about the people who were simply scared and trying to protect other citizens? Imagine being called by a police officer and receiving a call to go to a burglary. Now, this doesn't leave much to do, all you know is that you have to capture this person to save other people from breaking into their house. So you drive up and drive up to the scene, get out of the car and go back to try to surprise the guy. But just as you turn the corner you see him running across the yard. So you tackle the guy and pin him to the ground until you can put handcuffs on him. All this so that a criminal doesn't run away but reports you for tackling him to the ground and says you used a lot of force. Now, is it unfair to look at all police officers in a negative light because they think they are doing the right thing? Now we all know that's not always the case, sometimes people make mistakes or get a little too angry and use way too much force. But why are we punishing all the cops for those few who do it?
