Literature Review of 5 Articles Based on a secondary search of articles conducted by our group, led us to the problem statement that quality does not match price. We accumulated five significant articles and used their information to generate the problem statement. What we noticed was that there were a lot of articles regarding quality issues related to Sony laptops. This led us to question the high prices of Sony's offerings. The first article, titled “Sony Stocks Fall After VAIO Recall,” in the New York Times discussed the fallout from the 438,000 units of VAIO TZ laptops recalled last year. Among 200 70 cases of overheating caused by faulty cables have been reported worldwide (Izumi, 2008). According to the article, the effect of the recalls had caused Sony shares to decline by 4.2%. The next article mentioned that Sony is no stranger to laptop recalls due to the laptop battery recall in 2008 (Null, 2008). This article questioned the reliability of Sony laptops. On the other hand, another article talked about a graphics chip in some Sony VAIO laptops that may fail due to the failure and overheating of the NVDIA chip (Pert, 2009). While this article only informs readers of the Sony-installed chip failure, the next article our group found acknowledged graphics issues related to the NVIDIA chip. Potentially faulty graphics chips are believed to be built into 14 Sony VAIO laptop models and may cause display problems, video distortion, blank screen, and other unusual graphics problems (My Digital Life, 2009). Finally, the last article we collected discussed the price being too high......middle of the paper......nna doesn't know much about computers and says she only uses her laptop for school and the internet ( Joanna, Personal Interview, February 2010). Another response I found it surprising that an attendee who owns a Sony was with Patrick. He said Sony laptops give you what you pay for, and despite the recalls, he would continue to choose Sony (Patrick, Personal Interview, March 2010). He believes that every laptop becomes difficult sooner or later. Although Patrick has only had his Sony VAIO for about a year, he has already encountered some minor issues, such as the fan being too loud, the speed dropping, and the battery life getting worse. Nonetheless, Patrick said it is comforting to know that a major consumer electronics brand like Sony has reliable customer service to address such issues (Patrick, Personal Interview, March 2010).
