Working as part of any healthcare industry, safety is the number one goal. It is the responsibility of nurses, physicians and doctors to provide each patient with complete knowledge and understanding of any event or procedure that occurs during their hospitalization. Defending the patient is a great responsibility of nurses' duty. A couple of months ago a young male, aged 19, was taken to the local hospital. For identity reasons he will be called Joe. The young man, Joe, was in the college dormitory at the time of the accident when paramedics were called to the scene. He showed symptoms of tiredness, dizziness, shortness of breath and was coughing up blood. After assessing him, paramedics urgently requested that he be transferred to hospital. Over the course of 24 hours he had experienced many different aspects of healthcare, from the paramedics arriving on scene to the doctors diagnosing his case. According to the young male, the interaction with the paramedics was unprofessional. The paramedic was no help in getting Joe down three flights of stairs or into the ambulance as he kept repeating, "I think I'm going to pass out." Instead the paramedic rudely asked him what he was doing as he stopped walking, to regain stability. The specific words Joe used to describe the paramedic were “critical and cynical.” As the paramedic asked him for his name and address, he became very frustrated as Joe continued to cough sharply. The paramedic seemed unhappy about having to find himself in this current situation. Being part of an intervention team as a paramedic is essential to aid in patient care.
