This speech is also known as the “race” speech. The speech was intended to address the issue of race in American life and touched on racial history and tensions in America. The speech responds to video of Barack Obama's pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, making comments against the government and America. Obama uses all three rhetorical appeals, but relies more heavily on the logos appeal to address the nation regarding concerns about his affiliation with Reverend Wright. Logos is the logic used to support a statement; they can also be the facts and statistics used to support the argument. Barack Obama carefully explains the racial problems in America and provides logical solutions to the problems.
