The Kokoda War brought both excitement and sadness, not only to the soldiers but also to the Australians who were at home waiting for their family to return. Australia wasn't always going to win this war, it was a hard fought decision. Due to the size and number of Australians we had compared to the Japanese, this war made it infinite in Japan's favor. Both the harsh conditions and the attitude of the Australians were also important factors that made it almost impossible for Australia to win. Even if Australia won the war, it was always going to be a high-casualty war. The Kokoda Track runs for ninety-six kilometers and connects both the southern and northern coasts of Papua New Guinea. This runway was used as an extreme fighting ground between the Australians and the Japanese. The Kokoda route includes lush, dense rainforest and mountainous country. This made carrying out this war extremely difficult. For seven long and arduous months both Australia and the Japanese were engaged in a great struggle for control. This was not an easy place for a war and as a result many lives were sadly lost on both the Australian and Japanese sides. The Japanese had a considerably larger army than the Australians. This was one of the main reasons why many Japanese and even Australians believed that the Japanese would also win the war. For every Australian there were three Japanese soldiers; this made it virtually impossible for Australia to win. Many people both in and out of the war believed that it would be a very quick and easy capture of Port Moresby when comparing the sizes of both armies. The six thousand Australian soldiers quickly fell to 250, a very small number in the Japanese army. “Many entered and very few left.” Did one of these guys say it......middle of paper......defend our country? If this war had broken out and we had to fight for our country, there would have been a great possibility that the Japanese would return with an army triple the size and with an attitude that if anyone got in their way, they would do more he will probably die within an instant. Our country would be under the control of the Japanese, and soon after they would take control of everything, and the world would be under Japanese authority. This battle was long, arduous and rewarding for the Australians. On the Kokoda Trail many lives were lost and friendships were tested, but nothing broke the bond the Australian soldiers had with each other. A lot of people thought we couldn't do it, but then everything changed when Australia believed we could do it. This result overwhelmed the whole of Australia. We had won the war.
